What Is BUDDY BALL?
by posted 02/22/2012

WHAT IS BUDDY BALL?

Since our last communication regarding Buddy Ball registration, we've received an outpour of emails asking...WHAT IS BUDDY BALL?

We thank you for inquiring and are so excited to share a little information about our program – so maybe you too would like to get involved!

SO, HERE WE GO...

  • ·         Originated in Spring of 2009, we will be entering our 4th season
  • ·         Created to give all siblings of DBYS players, regardless of any developmental, physical, or social issue, a chance to play baseball - like their siblings
  • ·         Open to all youth ages 4 to 21, most are from Daniel Boone School District
  • ·         Buddies, ages 9 -20,  are matched with players to help assist their peers in the least restrictive way possible
  • ·         Friendships are created that last way beyond the baseball field
  • ·         Last season we had 24 players and 52 buddies
  • ·         100% sponsor-funded program for all players and Buddies during our first 3 years, we hope to be able to continue this each season
  • ·         Coaches, Announcers, and Snack bar staff are all adults from the community who offer  their time to volunteer so that parents can watch and cheer on their child

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?

  • ·         Do you know a player who can benefit from our program – sign them up!!
  • ·         Do you have a child who would like to be a buddy (age 9-21) – sign them up!!!
  • ·         Do you have an interest in volunteering with coaching, field prep, or snack bar assistance – contact
  • ·         Do you know someone or a company who would be willing to help sponsor this 100% free program?
  • ·         Do you have an HOUR on Sundays, from 1pm – 2pm, to stop by Township Fields and watch a game and cheer on our athletes?
  • Any questions or comments about Buddy Ball – please feel free to contact

Volunteers Needed!
by posted 02/19/2012

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

DBYS is looking for volunteers to fill a few critical roles for the upcoming 2012 Spring season!  We need dependable folks to help us with the following positions:

SNACK BAR COORDINATOR (Lake Drive):
  • Responsible for ensuring the snack bar is fully stocked at all times; reporting stock needs to the overall Snack Bar Director.
  • Oversee the opening and closing of the snack bar on game days/nights; relying on assistance from key holders as needed.
  • Work with the Snack Bar Director and the DBYS Treasurer to ensure all snack bar needs are met and any snack bar issues at your site are addressed.
  • Work with parent volunteers to provide adequate game day snack bar coverage.

SNACK BAR COORDINATOR (Township Fields):
  • See above responsibilities.

FIELD DIRECTOR (All Fields):
  • Oversee the general maintenance and upkeep of all DBYS fields throughout the season.
  • Work with the DBYS Board to order materials necessary to keep fields in excellent playing condition.
  • Manage a team of Site Field Coordinators; ensure all Site Coordinators have necessary materials and resources to maintain excellent field conditions and playablility throughout the season.
  • Report inadequate field conditions to the DBYS Board; work with Site Coordinators to determine field playability and closures.

SITE FIELD COORDINATORS (One for each of the following fields:  Hill Road, Lake Drive, Township, MS and AIC/APC T-Ball Fields):
  • Oversee the care and upkeep of a specific field site; working with coaches and their staffs to ensure daily pre- and post-game/practice field maintenance (raking, dragging, etc.).
  • Work with the Field Director to order supplies and materials necessary to keep fields in excellent playing condition and to maintain playability throughout the season.
  • Address, respond to and report all field needs and conditions to the Field Director as needed.
If you'd like to become more involved with our youth sports organization, we'd love (and so appreciate) your help!  Please consider volunteering for one of the roles listed above!

A big thank you to Roxanne Coughenour (2012 Snack Bar Director) and Lesley Spitko (2012 Snack Bar Coordinator - Hill Road) for volunteering to take on extra responsibilities this season.  All other interested volunteers, please contact Camille Hayes at

We appreciate your support and hope to hear from a few folks interested in helping us fill our volunteer needs.  Thank you!

Head Coaches Still Needed!
by posted 02/16/2012

HEAD COACHES STILL NEEDED!

Thank you to everyone who attended last night's monthly meeting!  The standing-room-only crowd and the passionate and healthy discussions are just continued examples of how much our DBYS families care about our this youth sports organization!  That's great stuff!

Thank you also to the many volunteers who offered to coach in our league this season!  What would we do without you!  We are still in need of a few Head Coaches in the following divisions:

BASEBALL:

MAJORS:
  • Two (2) head coaches needed

ROOKIE:
  • Two (2) head coaches needed

T-BALL:
  • Three (3) head coaches needed

If you are able to fill one of the key positions above, please contact DBYS Vice-President, Ben Marchese at - as soon as possible.  Being a head coach does require time, organization and patience (among so many other things) - but the reward of having an impact on kids as they grow into ball players (because of your knowledge and instruction)? - PRICELESS!  Please consider taking on a lead role!

Thanks again to all for registering your players and supporting our exciting season ahead!
